Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport After Significant ATC System Failure
Air travel have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport after a significant air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.
All aircraft movements were halted due to an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.
A number of travelers were left waiting in jets at the stand during the disruption.
Flights Resume with Continued Disruption
The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
That said, ongoing issues are anticipated to persist for some time. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.
A spokesperson had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.
"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their specific flights," the statement added.
Root of the Disruption
The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.
Travelers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the hub as residual delays are managed.
