British Armed Forces Bases to House Refugee Applicants in Initiative to Cease Hotel-Based Use

Military housing facility

Numerous refugee applicants might be housed in military barracks as the government aims to terminate the utilization of hotel accommodations.

Negotiations are in progress regarding the conversion of two facilities - a facility in Scotland and another in the English south - for accommodation for 900 men.

The PM has directed Interior Ministry and Ministry of Defence representatives to expedite efforts to locate proper military sites.

The administration has pledged to terminate the operation of refugee hotels, which have consumed substantial taxpayer money and emerged as a focal point for anti-migrant protests.

Under Consideration Military Facilities

Migrants might be housed in the Inverness barracks in Highland region and Crowborough army training camp in the southern county by the end of next month.

Commercial facilities, short-term shelter and otherwise disused accommodation are also being examined for potential use.

Authorities Statements

Administration officials indicated that all sites would meet health and safety standards.

"Our administration is deeply troubled at the scale of illegal migrants and temporary hotel accommodations."

"This government will close every asylum hotel. Work are well underway, with more suitable sites being identified to alleviate strain on local areas and decrease migrant housing expenditures."

Existing Shelter Data

Around 32 thousand asylum seekers are at this time being accommodated in hotels, representing a reduction from a maximum of more than 56,000 in 2023.

A recent report found that multiple billions of taxpayers' money had been "misused" on asylum accommodation.

Prior Military Facility Utilization

Two previous defense facilities - former RAF base in Essex and Napier Barracks in the southern county - are currently being used to accommodate refugee applicants after being established under the former leadership.

The government leader commented on the situation, saying: "I am committed to shut down every refugee hotel. Words cannot describe how disappointed and concerned the administration feels that we've been left with a challenge as substantial as this by the former leadership."
