Labuschagne Left Out from Australia's One-Day International Squad to Face Team India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the three-game ODI series facing India, with high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a surprise selection.

Recent Form Result in Omission

The right-hander was left out from the ODI squad after being dismissed for one in both of his innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a top score of 47 in his most recent ten ODI batting appearances.

Labuschagne has played 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 ODI runs at an batting average of 34.64, but will now continue to press his claims a Test recall ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Changes

Recent performances suggest of a improvement in form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw also hit a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his white-ball international debut in the upcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Test matches with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a Test return as Australia seek a answer to their top-order woes.

Pace Returns and Fitness News

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after being rested since excelling for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he works to regain fitness from a back injury in time to lead Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Schedule

Australia have selected a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 sides after smashing a century in the final game against New Zealand to seal a 2-0 series win last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India starts on 19 October in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from October 29.
